A few weeks ago I added a donation button. I’ve received $142 so far. I could have likely received more, but I included the world’s worst marketing line on the donation page:
“However, I make no guarantees regarding what will be done with the money, and I will publish no record of how it is used. If I buy myself beer and a rocket-powered propeller hat instead, well, I warned you.”
Hmm. Why did I write that? I just haven’t been too comfortable about asking for donations, and somehow adding a disclaimer seemed to be appropriate. But since I have always only planned to use any donations for BTE related stuff anyhow, I removed the above quote of marketing genius.
I do plan to start spending more money, both from donations and my own money, related to the BTE venture. For one thing, I’m going to pay graphic artists to create images both of the interior and exterior of the ship while following the BTE site ideas. I’m working on a statement of work for this to post on Elance to get bids.
If you’ve never looked around Elance, it’s pretty interesting. People from around the world will bid on about any job you can come up with. Have an idea for a phone app? Just post your requirements on Elance and get a quote. I developed this site by starting out using a contractor on Elance. In fact, I still use the same company and have been paying them for weekly tweaks for a long time.
Maybe I should post this on Elance:
“Will pay for gigawatt-class spaceship, 20 year contract, bids must be less than $1 trillion, ship in the form of the USS Enterprise …”
That should do it.
