In 1999 he was emmited a 2,000 Lei banknote, which had a rather Anniversary purpose, being launched at the total solar eclipse of 11 august 1999, visible from a fairly large area in Romania.
The banknote was made in hard plastic (polymer), a method used in all banknotes in the future.
Value of 2,000 lei this bill was weak, of about 10 Euro cents with which you could buy a loaf of bread. However, the initiative was very original for Romania?
Probably why the eclipse was put on the 2000 lei banknote, is because it was closer to 1999, when the event happened.
I wonder if there are also countries that have emmited banknotes in circulation on astronomical subject.
