Comet ISON will be visible to the naked eyes as it is moving towards the sun and will reach its closest approach to the sun on November 28.
According to the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT), the icy comet ISON is expected to pass as close as 1 million km from the sun surface and will be visible to Thais from November 23 onwards.
Therefore, NARIT will organize a comet-spotting activity on Doi Suthep starting from November 23 during 4:00am to 6:30am. Experts will also be there to talk about the forthcoming phenomenon.
NARIT is hopeful that the comet will survive the trip to the sun as it will be traveling at the speed of 376 kilometers per second and will be heated to about 2,760 degrees Celsius which is hot enough to vaporize the entire rock.
If the comet does not get vaporized, it will pass its closest point to the sun on November 28 and will be clearer from early December.
The highly regarded comet observer John Bortle is just as perplexed by the comet’s recent appearance, commenting that the recent images along with his own visual impression, is “downright weird.”
One or more fragments could have gotten detached from comet ISON in the past days, as two wing-shaped features in the comet’s atmosphere suggest.
Scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (MPS) in Germany and the Wendelstein Observatory of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich (Germany) discovered these features in images taken at the end of last week.
The fragmentation may offer an explanation for the comet’s recent outburst of activity.

http://www.youtube.com/thornews PLEASE do not watch this video unless you are an intelligent human being with a sense of humor. Thank you. We’ve got 2 new ISON videos thanks to Astromut & Bruce Gary!!! In this episode of Comet c/2012 s1 ISON WTF NASA / EARTH ?!?! part 42 – She is Superman blue. We discuss a wide variety of topics, from the outbursts to the out gassing, also Comets Encke Lovejoy & Linear, plus the strange Minimal Solar Maximum that is strange and double peaked, we pay homage to ISON Champions Bruce Gary & Astromut and we laugh a little at the mainstream media’s coverage of ISON.
God bless everyone,
