The Lynx Spaceplane and Rocket Engine Company Looking at July for Move
MIDLAND, Texas — Would-be space travelers must wait another six months before XCOR Aerospace officially relocates its headquarters to Midland.
The private aerospace company made a $10 million agreement with the Midland Development Corp. to move from Mojave, Calif., to a hangar at Midland International Airport.
But it has taken more than a year for the airport to clear a spaceport license with the Federal Aviation Administration and for XCOR to get two phases of hangar renovations off the ground.
Marv Esterly, Midland’s director of airports, said the environmental assessment stage of applying for a spaceport license is nearly complete, with attorneys at the Office of Commercial Space Transportation reviewing it.
