One of the two Soviet cosmonauts aboard the 1975 Apollo-Soyuz Test Project (ASTP), the first US and Russian space mission, Valery Nikolayevich Kubasov died Wednesday (Feb. 19). He was 79. A veteran of three spaceflights, Kubasov flew onboard Soyuz 6 in 1969 and Soyuz 36 in 1980. He was chosen to train as a cosmonaut in 1966, and left the corps in 1993.
