Soyuz TMA-12M crewmembers Alexander Skvortsov, Steven Swanson and Oleg Artemyev launched for a same-day journey to the International Space Station Tuesday (March 25). The three lifted off from the Baikonur Cosomdrome in Kazakhstan to begin their five and a half months in space. As Expedition 39/40 crew mates, they will conduct more than 200 experiments, participate in (at least) three spacewalks, and oversee the arrival of as many as seven cargo ships, including the fifth and last of ESA’s Automated Transfer Vehicles (ATV).
