Past Life on Mars Produced Fixed Nitrogen Molecules.
NASA’s press release http://www.nasa.gov/content/goddard/mars-nitrogen/index.html reported that Mars rover Curiosity found fixed nitrogen molecules, but NASA did not mention the possibility that the fixed nitrogen molecules could have been produced by past Martian life (note 1). In fact, most of the fixed nitrogen molecules on Earth originated from organisms (note 2). Why did NASA evade the possibility of past life on Mars (note 3)?
There are only three proven sources or mechanisms in which fixed nitrogen molecules can be produced: Living humans, other living organisms, and lightning strikes (note 2). NASA scientists claim the fixed nitrogen molecules likely originated from meteorite impacts and lightning strikes, as the detected fixed nitrogen molecules are widespread and small in quantities. Such a claim ignores the fact that the samples came from concrete pavements (note 3).
Note 1: Quote from the fifth paragraph in the press release:
“There is no evidence to suggest that the fixed nitrogen molecules found by the team were created by life. The surface of Mars is inhospitable for known forms of life. Instead, the team thinks the nitrates are ancient, and likely came from non-biological processes like meteorite impacts and lightning in Mars’ distant past.”
