Three Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) produced on June 18, 19 and 21 have now all arrived at our planet and their combined effects caused G4-Strong geomagnetic storm on June 22, 2015.
Currently in progress on June 22, 2015, is a severe G4-class geomagnetic storm. Earth’s magnetic field has already been under bombardment by a series of rapid-fire CME strikes during the past 24 hour period. There is an opportunity for sky watchers in the high-latitude and mid-latitude ranges to see auroras this evening, especially around midnight local time.
Additionally, the sunspot AR2371 has again erupted and produced a M6.5 class solar flare, which produced moderate to strong blackout of shortwave and low-frequency signals all across North America earlier today.
As you are about to see in the videos below, Two of the three CMEs were produced by Region 2371, one of the biggest regions of the current solar cycle, which is currently directly facing Earth.
This is the very early stages of an event that will play out over many hours, with SWPC forecasting continuing storm level intensities into tomorrow.
UPDATED – The solar flare we have been watching for has happened.
Very cool . Radiation is FUN !@!
