This Morning presenter Ruth Langsford has revealed her fears about her husband and co-presenter, Eamonn Holmes, ‘punishing’ work schedule. They may seem lively and chatty on the ITV daytime programme but she thinks that Eamonn cannot continue his working day of 4am to 9pm without consequences to his health.
“I worry that Eamonn takes a lot on,” she told the Daily Mirror. Eamonn revealed to The Sun last month that he often sleeps as little as four hours and said he’s sure a combination of sleep deprivation and his work load ‘will kill me at some point’.
He wakes at 4am to present Sky News Sunrise, which runs weekdays from 6am-9am, before joining his wife on the ITV sofa on Fridays to present This Morning. The two have also recently been working 18-hour days filming their their six-part documentary Eamonn And Ruth: How The Other Half Lives.

“He’s very responsible for his family, and I think anything where you are getting up that early and then still working until 9pm is going to take its toll,” Ruth said. “Instead of me just going, ‘Oh be careful, I worry about you,’ I sort out his food and make sure he’s in bed on time, that he’s going to have clean sheets and a clean shirt and I’ve made a lovely dinner. You can’t have that kind of schedule and not put the right petrol in your body.”
With such busy schedules, the pair, both 55, are very much looking forward to retirement. Ruth said: “I’d like to work for as long as television will have me, and I think people like me are flying the flag for older women on screen, but Eamonn and I do think about retirement and how we would live. I have a very happy marriage and love spending time with my husband … I’m thoroughly looking forward to the day when we don’t have to get up for work and can just go for a walk on the beach or take the dog for a walk.”

Ruth also revealed how difficult the decision to accept the This Morning job was, fearing how they would juggle work and looking after their 13-year-old son, Jack.
“As a professional broadcaster, it’s very hard to turn work down and it’s flattering to be asked, so your natural reaction is to go, ‘Yes, wow. That’s amazing.’ But we have to work out the schedule. I love what I do, but my marriage and family is much more important to me than my job. My job is not my life.”
