For 40 years, they remained hidden below the seats inside the Apollo 11 command module, “Columbia.” Now, the Smithsonian’s effort to 3D scan the capsule has revealed them for the first time. Handwritten inscriptions, including a calendar, navigational notations and improvised labels have been found alongside lockers and on the walls of the mission’s spaceship.
