Edgar Mitchell, the sixth astronaut to walk on the moon, died on Thursday (Feb 4), the day before the 45th anniversary of his landing. The lunar module pilot on board the Apollo 14 mission, Mitchell and Alan Shepard explored the Fra Mauro lunar highlands for nine hours over the course of two excursions. The first and only astronaut to throw a javelin on the moon, Mitchell conducted ESP experiments on the way back to Earth.
