Lawmakers recently put forth legislation that would call on the United States Treasury to mint a coin in recognition of the 30th anniversary of the space shuttle Challenger tragedy and honor the teacher on the crew. The “Christa McAuliffe Commemorative Coin Act” directs that the sale of commemorative coins would benefit the FIRST robotics program, continuing McAuliffe’s mission to engage students in science, math and engineering.
