UPDATE: Moderate (G2) to Strong (G3) geomagnetic storming possible during the next 24 hours thanks to a long lasting sector of negative Bz. Visible aurora will be likely tonight at middle to high latitudes.

A G2 (Moderate) Geomagnetic Storm commenced at 1759 UTC (~2:00 pm ET) on 13 October due to continued CME effects. A G3 (Strong) Geomagnetic Storm Watch remains in effect for 14 October as effects persist. Sky watchers at higher latitudes should still be alert for visible aurora tonight once dark outside.

G2 (Moderate) Geomagnetic Storm Impacts
Power systems: High-latitude power systems may experience voltage alarms, long-duration storms may cause transformer damage.
Spacecraft operations: Corrective actions to orientation may be required by ground control; possible changes in drag affect orbit predictions.
Other systems: HF radio propagation can fade at higher latitudes, and aurora has been seen as low as New York and Idaho (typically 55° geomagnetic lat.).
When they start posting G9 storms then you might want to faraday a cage or two around your electronics and batten up the grid. G2 and G3 childs play
