Russia Exposes 199 Spies

MOSCOW, Feb. 7 (UPI) — Outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Tuesday Russian counterintelligence had exposed 199 spies working for foreign powers last year.
At a meeting of the Federal Security Service (FSB), Medvedev discussed the list of exposed spies.
Of the 199, 41 of were professional spies, and 158 were in the pay of foreign spymasters, Medvedev said. Although some of the agents were Russian nationals, Medvedev chose not to discuss the home country of every agent.
RIA Novosti reports the FSB also prevented 94 "crimes of a terrorist nature" in 2011, which included eight terrorist attacks. Medvedev said, however, the number of such attacks does not appear to be diminishing.
