FBI Can Secretly Turn On Laptop Cameras Without The Indicator Light

(Before It's News)

Scary. Insane. Ridiculous. Invasive. WrongThe Washington Post reports that the FBI has had the ability to secretly activate a computer’s camera “without triggering the light that lets users know it is recording” for years now. What in the hell is going on? What kind of world do we live in?

Marcus Thomas, the former assistant director of the FBI’s Operational Technology Division, told the Post that that sort of creepy spy laptop recording is “mainly” used in terrorism cases or the “most serious” of criminal investigations. That doesn’t really make it less crazy (or any better) since the very idea of the FBI being able to watch you through your computer is absolutely disturbing.

The FBI has a long history of abuse towards the constitution.  A document not respected since the days of Abe Lincoln.  This is one of those things that your crazy conspiracy theory brother or son may have told you about that you knew for sure he was wrong about.  Well, think again.  It’s real, It’s now and it’s not going anywhere.  It’s only going to get worse and more invasive unless you, we, the people stand up to it.  -Mort

  • Tape over the camera!

    • Where is the camera on my laptop?
I cover my hi def tv with a blanket. Hubby thought I was nuts when I told him I do it for privacy.
Also unplugged the antenna and turn off the power strip.
We don’t watch tv. Just movies on the VCR and DVD.
When I asked the tv repair man if it were true that hi def tv’s had cameras that could film you he answered solemnly,” I wouldn’t have one of those things in MY house.”
I wouldn’t either, hubby got it because he wanted a wide screen. :(

    • DONT USE TAPE!!!

Why does everyone think this is a brilliant idea? Tape will ruin your webcam lens.

Don’t try and re-invent the wheel people… There is already a REAL webcam cover available that fits EVERY device you have…

      Google: camJAMR Webcam Covers

      or check out http://www.camjamr.com

You will thank me later :)

      Cheers!

  • A little strip of electrical black tape will stop that intrusion.

    • Stop using electrical tape… It ruins webcam lenses.

      Google: camJAMR Webcam Covers.

I use the “Covert Pack” on every single one of my devices.

Figured this is worth mentioning, since everyone is making these bootleg webcam covers, lol.

      • I use a spot band aid and don’t care if it ruins the lens on my webcam or not. Have never used the webcam in the 5 years that I’ve had a laptop with cam and never will.

  • really…that’s crazy…not saying its not true but is there any proof

  • I’ve had tape on my camera’s for years. With how many times I had spyware on my computer, BEFORE the year 2000- there’s no way I ever trusted that anyone on Earth couldn’t turn it on for their own amusement.
I’m saving up to acquire a laptop that doesn’t have a camera or microphone, and is top of the line, right now. As well, I want the WiFi to have a physical toggle switch that disconnects it from the computer completely when I’m done with it.

Trust is reserved for individuals who have earned it, not agencies that are legally classified as Secret Societies by definition.

    • My laptop ”LENOVO” has a physical switch to turn WiFi on/off,,, but I still have to tape mike and camera ”’

  • Here’s something even more intrusive. Back in the 90′s, there was a bank holdup east of Raleigh,NC. Hostages were taken and a standoff ensued. It was reported, that law enforcement was able to have the PHONES REMOTELY CONTROLLED TO ALLOW EAVESDROPPING on conversation within the bank!

I had suspicions regarding this revelation until the tool was confirmed by a friend, a Chief of Police in another state. It extends to TURNED OFF CELL PHONES as well!

PS. Cover the microphone port on your computer as well.

  • With remote neural monitoring, synthetic telepathy, and eeg brain-wave “eavesdropping”, YOUR EYES ARE A CAMERA.

    • I heard about that one. Amazing. But used for the wrong things.
Just can’t imagine anyone would want to watch me plucking nose hairs!!! lol
      Sick bunch.

      • cloud… What is actually being done is using it for psychological terrorism. Imagine a world where “The Mind Has No Firewall” and a persons thoughts, actions, and observations are mocked with advertisements and provocative content.

Example: Say you sign on to an account and your password is [ pluckingnosehairs ]. Then you go to Facebook and start seeing ads for tweezers, facial grooming, an nasals spray ads with close-up shots of nostrils.

Or has this already happened to you? :)

  • Yeah, it’s amazing how many people have tape over they’re laptop camera……

  • I cover my high def tv.
I also turn the cover of my laptop down when I am finished with it.

  • Hello everyone, here is a link to a story about this very thing,,,check it out and  then you decide…here is the proof that it is possible and the do do it.

  • Evolution of Crusty Crayfish

Another thing I never knew until recently by accident–I was exploring the little sound recorder that comes with most computers under windows accessories. Where you can plug a mike in and make a voice recording or whatever. I didn’t have a mike yet when I moved the computer the sound waves showed on the recorder—so I turned on record and talked normally and moved about the room and sure enough, the computer itself is a microphone-no mike needed! I disabled the mike then in the control panel
I suppose this is another avenue for spying given everything else. In fact you could use your computer in public with the recording device on and record conversations with no one knowing better.

  • Good for them but can they see through electrical tape?
