“My intention at bhaktifest is to share the profund traditions of Bhajan, Kirtan, as well as aspects of Ghazal and Qawwali devotional by expressing not only the chant but the raag & formal techniques and melodies of Hindustani music. We have all agreed this is yoga of devotion, to open our hearts and meditate on the divine; I feel the next step in to enter this amazing, deep, very ancient tradition by studying the history of the music. It has lifetimes of knowledge and wonder waiting for us to approach. Even if we fusion this music with other styles we can still learn and incorporate so much from the history. I believe this practice and the history it comes from is not separate, and if you separate them too much something becomes missing. So yes I will be 2 sets at the Bhaktifest , one is my kirtan set of course, and the other with my sufi qawwali group fanna-fi allah. hope to see you all there! jai ma”
