Here is a photograph of a mandala I created yesterday as a collage using items from my house and garden.
One of my resolutions for the year was to create a mandala each month including seasonal items. Although this is only the second mandala I’ve done this year, I’m already seeing how my mandalas are reflecting my moods. Back in January I was suffering from toothache and due to have a dental operation. My mandala reflected my anxiety – I called it Lips as Red as Blood.
My February mandala shows me in a much happier place. It is heart-shaped and includes various heart motifs within it. Earlier this month, before Valentine’s Day, I created the central heart shape out of seeds as an illustration for a guided visualisation I wrote, called The Seeds of Love.
I decided to add to that, using flowers, fresh leaves, a rose-hip and seed-pod from my garden; fresh herbs from my kitchen window; beads and glass baubles from my trinket box and a bracelet that was given to me by my parents as a gift when I was a child. All of these are things I find beautiful or have sentimental attachment to. This is a mandala about love, beauty and hope for the future.
