This week’s matchup with the chargers is going to keep things extremely interesting even with playoff hopes dead. Rex Ryan is using these next two weeks to take a look at Greg McElroy while there is nothing to lose.
Philip Rivers is as unpredictable as Mark Sanchez or Tony Romo. We don’t know if we will see 3 touchdown Philip Rivers or 5 interception Philip Rivers. With Norv Turner’s job hanging in the balance as this season comes to in end, he will be trying to keep the destruction level as low as possible.
Ryan Matthews is a less that average running back, so the running game isn’t what should be feared. It is his involvement in Norv Turner’s screen passes that can cause problems. When the Chargers offense gets some blocks, Matthews gets plenty of time to move the ball. Antonio gates can be a deep threat at times as well, as he is quick and one of the most reliable tight ends in the game and a number one choice to Rivers.
The Jets looked pathetic on Monday Night as they were embarrassed again on nation television. With their chances at making the playoffs gone, they will be trying new things in the final two weeks of the season. Greg McElroy will now get his chance to start for the first time in his career. The next weeks, for me, are not necessarily about winning, but also about seeing how things would be about next year. I would like to see how they use their young receivers (Clyde Gates, Chaz Schillens, Stephen Hill) and also Braylon Edwards.
I think this game will be extremely close. The Chargers and Jets have always matched up well with each other. It will not be high scoring or glamorous for either team. I gave the Jets winning 13-10. Now, I am not just saying this because I like the Jets or am writing for a Jets crowd. The last time we saw McElroy play against a home crowd, they were giving him full support. This will be even more prevalent as the Jets just munched public enemy #1: Mark Sanchez. The 12th man will win this game for the Jets.
Injuries: Dustin Keller
Questionable: Braylon Edwards, Si’one Pouha, Chaz Schillens and Bryan Thomas
Player to watch: Greg McElroy. I look forward to seeing the new quarterback play a full game and more than 2 drives. I hope he does well, preventing the delusional front office from signing Michael Vick
