The Patriots traveled to Jacksonville today to play the struggling Jaguars. There isn’t much to prove in today’s game for New England especially for the Patriots offense. The Patriots offense had an amazing comeback bid fall short thanks to special teams and defensive effort on the game winning plays for the 49ners. The defense can prove they can stop a struggling QB which they have had trouble doing in the past.
In this game I would love to see QB Ryan Mallet get in a half of work. If New England wants to trade the young QB then this game would ideal for the QB to play and show his skill sets in the way QB Matt Flynn did last season. Brady needs to rest for the playoffs and be made sure he is plenty healthy for New England’s playoff run because in the playoffs he will face off against effective pass rushes, excellent blitzes, and will be hit a lot. It’s hard for the Patriots Nation I’m sure to get to excited for a game like this, but Tom Brady can continue his TD streak and help this offense break his previous offensive record from 07. This point in the season all I can say is Tom Brady deserves every record he can get because of what he means to the team, his effort versus the 49ners, and the fact he has had an average defense for the past couple of years.
The defensive side of things they can prove some things. They can show they can stop a struggling QB which has caused problems for the defense in the past, and Chad Henne, a familiar foe, did light up the Texans defense. Pass rushing for New England needs to show up in this game, if not, then go ahead and say, this defense has no consistent pass rush ability. Blitz packages, see if any or all works, and play around with things in today’s game because the hope is, it won’t be a nail biting, fight to the end kind of game.
