If the Patriots can come out and win Super Bowl LI a week from tomorrow, it will be the ultimate slap in the face to NFL Commish Roger Goodell after he went out of his way to make sure New England quarterback Tom Brady sat the first four games of the season for his supposed role in the Deflategate saga from two years ago.
Many think the Pats will win the game next week, as even w88sport still has New England as a solid three-point favorite to win, but that’s not stopping Bradys’ dad from speaking out.
Brady’s pop went out of his way to slam Goodell in an exclusive interview with Bay Area television station KRON, even using the word ‘witch hunt’ in the interview.
“(Goodell) went on a witch hunt and went in way over his head and had to lie his way out in numerous ways and the reality is that Tommy never got suspended for deflating footballs,” Brady Sr. said.
“He got suspended because the court said that he could, Roger Goodell could do anything he wanted to do to any player for any reason whatsoever. That’s what happened. The NFL admitted they had no evidence on him.”
The NFL did state that there was no evidence, but there was already so much backlash for the AFC Title game a few years back, it was almost they were forced and went out of their way to make sure Brady was punished.
Goodell seems to love to try and put popular players under the radar, not only handing down a suspension on Brady, but a few years back suspending Steelers hard-hitting linebacker James Harrison, making him sit for a game in 2011 after a couple hits that knocked quarterbacks out of action.
Brady came out of the suspension on fire, throwing for 3,554 yards this season with an amazing 28 touchdowns with two picks, and was masterful in the two playoff wins over the Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers.
If he can come out with that same energy against the Atlanta Falcons next week, the Pats again are going to be hoisting a trophy, and there’s no doubt that Brady will be even closer to having a bust in Canton at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
His dad is right about the witch hunt, and Goodell is going to end up with egg on his face when the Pats take home another title next weekend.
