| Gerrit makes his first outing of the spring (2016 Museum Club) |
Pitchers: Gerrit Cole, Tyler Glasnow, Drew Hutchison and Jared Lakind. This is Cole's first turn on the hill. Today features the unusual combo of the club ace teamed up with a pair of guys gunning for the fifth spot in the rotation, although Tyler may one day fill Gerrit's shoes.
Yesterday's Game: Good start as Fran and Jose Osuna cranked longballs off Justin Verlander. It got better later when Adam Frazier homered and Jordy drilled a grand salami. The smoke cleared after OF'er Jerrick Suiter's two run single with the Buccos rolling to an 11-1 victory over the Tigers. Steven Brault, Trevor Williams, Tyler Webb, Tyler Eppler and minor-league camper Jason Creasy combined to toss six-hit ball.
Notes:
- Jung Ho Kang received an eight-month sentence suspended for two years (we believe that means no time if he stays clean for the next two years) from his DUI charges. He was also fined $2,000 and had his license revoked. It doesn't seem like he was given a break as the prosecution just asked for a hefty fine. The next step is to see what the passport people and the MLB/Pirates have in mind to address JHK's transgression is next… He did say he would go into rehab mode and that may be enough; at least it should serve to lighten whatever baseball bangs him with.
- Not good news for a guy who was a camp longshot – Jason Rogers is in a walking boot today with right ankle discomfort and will miss at least a week.

- Justin Masterson is getting a look at Reds camp. He spent 2016 at Indy where he went 3-2/4.86.
- This is the Pirates 49th consecutive season in Bradenton for spring camp. Only two teams, the Tigers (Lakeland) and the Phils (Clearwater), have currently been in one place longer.
