It’s been an ongoing and flat out bizarre case since the moment the Patriots wrapped up one of the biggest (okay it was the biggest) win in the Super Bowl, that being what happened to the jersey belonging to quarterback Tom Brady.
The case for the missing jersey spread far and wide, and now the FBI and NFL security believe they have found the stolen jersey.
Jay Glazer of FOX Sports broke the story that the jersey, along with. a jersey missing from Super Bowl XLIX, were found in Mexico, and that they were being authenticated by authorities
The jersey was valued at $500,000, which makes this potential crime a first-degree felony.
At the time, Brady said he placed his jersey in a bag in the locker room. When he returned, it was no longer there, and thus the search began.
Because the game was in Houston, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick enlisted the Texas Rangers to help find it. They were unable to do so, but the FBI apparently was.
“I am happy my jerseys from SB 49 and SB 51 have been recovered, and I want to thank all of the law enforcement agencies involved. I know they worked hard on this case — and it is very much appreciated.
“Hopefully when I get the jerseys back I can make something very positive come from this experience,” Brady said in a statement released via his agent, Don Yee.
