(Before It's News)

A team led by University of Trier Professor Christoph Schaefer believes Cleopatra killed herself after taking a drug cocktail that included opium and hemlock and she did not commit suicide through the bite of an asp,  now known as the Egyptian cobra. Read the rest of the story here.

Christoph Schäfer, a professor of ancient history and  Prof. Dietrich Mebs, a toxicological and forensic scientist, examine the theory of the poison-death of Cleopatra. By researching sources and means of practical zoology, they refute the 2000 year old legend of the queen's suicide by a snake bite.

Moderator Karsten Schwanke in Egypt is looking for the answer to the question of how the pharaoh died really, and whether her suicide was a perfect performance. A short preview of the show can be found at www.zdf.de/ZDFmediathek/beitrag/video/1037186/Kleopatras-Tod. (in German but excellent graphics)
