HERE A large sinkhole formed in the driveway of the Massachusetts Mills Apartments on Bridge Street in Lowell around 8:10 p.m. Tuesday after a water line to a fire hydrant broke and eroded the earth around it, said Lowell Fire Deputy Chief Michael Donnelly.
The sinkhole is on private property, and the owner is responsible for repairing it, Donnelly said. The sinkhole has not really affected business or residents, he said. He did not know how wide or deep the hole was.
“Residents may have to drive around it,” he said.
