The West Yorkshire County rail service was disrupted when a lion and cub were seen prowling along the tracks. Passengers were not permitted to exit the trains until the animals were located.
The search was conducted by 12 officers on foot and a police helicopter. The animals were not located, but witnesses insisted they saw a lion and a cub that had “jumped on the tracks”.
A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman was quoted by BBC News: “We had two unconfirmed reports of a lion and or lion cub in the Huddersfield area at 15:30. We searched the area with the assistance of a helicopter but have not located anything as yet. Enquiries are ongoing.”
A spokesman for the Association of Train Operating Companies said: “Someone called West Yorkshire Police to say there is a lion that’s just jumped on to the train tracks.”
There was a similar incident in Australia. A lion was reported by motorists in Darwin, NT. Authorities investigated and were unable to find any sign on the creature. They even checked the local wildlife park, where two lions live; but both were safe and secure.
As of this writing, the lions from both sightings seemed to have vanished without a trace.
According to What's Your Sign, the symbolic meanings of the lion include strength and justice.
