Witness Statement: About 11:30 I looked out of the window and noticed a small light in the distance, approximately 5.5 miles away based on what I know about how Newcastle airport operates. The light which I thought at first was a chinese lantern moved slowly west to east. It was only when the light without pausing, speeding up or slowing down then rose straight upwards that I thought this may have been something else. As the light rose the heavy band of cloud it travelled through lit up very brightly. The light then began to travel towards me, once it got close enough i was able to see a light at the front, and two other lights, one on each side, there was NO tail light. It then flew east to west almost directly above me emitting a loud, pulsating booming noise. Once it had moved out of sight I checked a number of websites that track aircraft, none were in the skies within 60-70 miles. I then watched a plane take off from Newcastle airport some 30 minutes later and it did not follow the same path, or mimic any of the characteristics of my sighting. It was larger than an average passenger jet and moved much faster, I at first thought it was a military jet due to its manoeuvring ability but as far as I’m aware there are no such aircraft in the British inventory that do not have a tail and are shaped like a flying wing. Other than the band of cloud it flew through and lit up there was no other clouds when I observed it travelling above me.
