A Small Fine & 2 Years Probation
We were supposed to go to the pre-trial hearing for Mark E. near Tacoma, Washington– and Robin and I and 2 of my male friends all got dressed up in “courtroom clothes” and prepared to head out.
Then came the phone call last minute. Mark plea-bargained to a single charge of “Assault 4″ which is the least of all the assault charges. That's like stepping on a person's foot or elbowing them on purpose. A man who tortured, raped, sodomized, and held a woman imprisoned was charged with a handful of misdemeanors and then allowed to plead Assault 4. That carries a small fine and 2 years probation. It doesn't even get the asshole registered as a sex offender!
I SO hate the system right now…
Robin's going after him in civil court for her property he stole, plus medical and therapy expenses. Lady knows criminal courts aren't doing anyone any favors just now.
So I'm upset, but not even particularly surprised. I've been aware of how terribly the so-called justice system is weighted towards white males. Its nearly impossible to convict them of anything apparently– at least not towards women or minorities. A white man against a white man gets some respectful attention, but its an uphill struggle otherwise.

In the meantime, Robin has been getting stronger and more level-headed day by day. Medication helps and we'll be setting up a support group here soon. The worst is officially over. There will be no trial to deal with. Now its all civil court and recovery.
I'm just… DAMN IT.
I can't dwell upon it. Its too much to hold onto in my mind and heart just now. Still too close to overwhelmed for comfort here. I have to release it, at least temporarily, until my body stops glitching up like this!
