I set out to do “Freaky Friday” posts through the summer and early autumn in an attempt to get more memories about alien abduction written down (“texted out”?) I'm happy to report that indeed I managed to get a goodly portion of some often very difficult recollections recorded successfully. I'd say I believe I have some 2/3rds of my more clear memories shared now. A smattering of childhood stuff is left (once again, I ran across something I'd written (or drawn!) earlier and totally forgotten about– the “cauliflower heads” memory, for instance– how could I have skipped over THAT one!?) But mostly the very active period of my early 20s is all that's left and then I can concentrate on merely recording anything new that happens and discussing ideas and comparing recalled experiences. Now that I've mainly reached the period in my life (memory-wise) where I had support and developed better coping skills, the trauma dredged up by talking about my more fear-filled youth will not be as much of an issue. I believe I can complete my Past Memories Project by writing whenever I feel up to it, and that seems likely to be maybe one or two posts a month on that subject.
SO–! That leaves some room to discuss other things in regular posts…
I have so much to say that I can feel overwhelmed, which leads to me having too little to say until the pressure builds and out it all comes in a spurt of writing with an irregular result. I believe I'll start to devote most Fridays (not all, as things can and do happen personally to me on Fridays) to discussions about the future. I mean for society, trends for “the new normal” and Transition/Decline, etc.
Some issues I'll be bringing up about Life In the Future in the weeks to come:
~ Transportation: road degradation, bicycles & smaller cars, trains and light rail, river-traffic and the possible return of man-made canals.
~ Agriculture: reversals of interest, small-scale garden-farms, forest gardens, activist-led covert farming, permaculture's growing popularity.
~ Trade: online purchasing's changing shopping habits, trends in free and sharing, localism's growing popularity, big corporation's reactions.
~ Culture: regional diversification, political trends, growing consensus in areas once thought impossible, lifestyle shifts, generational changes.
There are so many fundamental changes beginning to our world in these times that I have no fear that I won't find material to address!
If you know what's coming, you can be ahead of the curve and maybe have some way to embrace, adapt, or accept the future before your choice is as limited as other people's who may find themselves blind-sided. And yes, there will be some “I told you so” raised-eyebrow commentary as we go along for pointing out things that I mentioned 2, 3, 4 or more years ago as what we could all expect!! =^)
