At long last, after months of busyness and chaos, Gerick and I were invited to hang out with Fara on Hawthorne and then dine with her and Meka. Fara wanted a tarot reading as well, so I brought 2 decks of cards.
We did a little shopping first along Portland's “hippie district” street, finding some incense and a couple of sundries. The weather was reminiscent of a spring in the Midwest, complete with crazy-looking dark thunderclouds and cloudbursts of short-lived drenching rain showers and hail. Seasoned Oregonian rain people were resorting to umbrellas (the very idea! so 'touristy') and ducking into stores and under eves desperate for shelter. Luckily, we managed to time our walk and shopping just right so as to avoid the worst of the precipitation.
Our last encounter with it had us running from the car to Fara's front door, squealing like children! Soon, we were made comfortable in their classic Portland craftsman cottage as Fara and Meka prepared a full Cuban meal. They even served Mohitos as a tasty beverage, though with dinner we had a Vino Verde, which I've never had before and was delighted with! (Its a slightly sweet wine, but very fresh and crisp, perfectly mild to offset very spicy foods.)
We discussed many things over our meal, but soon found ourselves gossiping about Game of Thrones. Gerick and I are getting HBO added to our cable service (for $10 less per month than we've been paying overall for our bill, which is nice) and are looking forward to catching up. We discussed all kinds of ins and outs of the beloved and bloody series with great gusto.
Finally, wonderfully tipsy on one mohito and one glass of the “green” wine, I gave my readings. Fara is working on being more assertive, and her first reading reflected that, and her second was all about some mysterious potential lover! Meka, meanwhile, had a couple of readings about being too assertive and it ended up being a very intense session indeed. Still, it seemed I hit upon a few issues that needed addressing and everyone seemed satisfied with the wisdom of the tarot.
Gerick and I returned home in plenty of time to relax before bed. Not a bad way to cap a weekend. =^)
