Goblin Shark Caught In Gulf Of Mexico South Of Key West

Believe it or not but what’s in the photo is a Rare Goblin Shark that was over 15 foot long when it was caught in a shrimp boat net south of Key West last week. The shark looks dead in the photo but the fishermen on the boat say that the shark was very much alive and that it was later released back into the water.

This is only the second known Goblin Shark to have been caught in the Gulf of Mexico and very few of these unusual beasts have been caught any where in the world. This one is said to have been caught at a depth of 2000 feet but it is said these sharks can easily be brought up from that depth and live because they do not have a swim bladder.

I think it looks like something from a bad late night movie. I mean look at that mouth of teeth. Gives you a whole new respect for sharks. Does anyone else hear the music from Jaws.
