Tomato season!!
This time, Shayla and I had a session in the afternoon where she and I prepped smaller cherry and pear tomatoes by blanching them (putting them in boiling water for half a minute then into ice-cold water afterwards) and pulling off their skins (the blanching loosens the skins a LOT) and then stuffing them into smaller jars to can whole.
New skills (blanching) and new tomato project (whole small tomatoes) to learn about. Then we cleaned up after ourselves and set our jars aside to cool and seal (and they all sealed perfectly.)
The evening was with Gerick and our next door neighbors playing music and goofing around while they did another giant batch of salsa (NOW with GARLIC!) Once more, things went great and the jars all sealed without a hitch!
One funny thing Gerick and I do that other people laugh at when they first hear us do it is go “WOO!” whenever we hear the 'pop' of a jar lid sealing. It sounds like *doink*, a second of silence as we process the sound, then we do our woo thing at the exact same time. Its almost like a pavlovian reaction at this point. Even alone, we catch ourselves doing it! Needless to say, if any guests are over then we do it in front of them almost subconsciously, even in the middle of a conversation! It always takes people aback, and then they laugh their asses off. By the end of the evening, though, they join us!
Stupid traditions are started this way. You're welcome!
