Disturbing Synch-Winks Regarding Mona

(Before It's News)

Gerick and I drove to the grocery store today and had a string of strange coincidences full of meaning that several people call synchronicities. I call them “synch winks” and have my own special tag for it. They don't happen often for me, so when they do I tend to perk up.

Today's version of synch winking had The Trickster all over it…

As my husband and I entered the store, we saw that the Halloween decoration are up now, including some 3 foot tall animatronic figures that light up, move, and speak, like vampies and zombies. One of them was a green-skinned witch. I admired it in passing and declared to Gerick that it looked eerily like Mona, the stepmother-in-law from hell who tormented me in my 30s. She died about 3 years ago from cancer, and I wrote a series of posts about my issues with her and my relief that she had passed.

Gerick agreed that the witches did indeed look like Mona. (I'm not kidding– seriously.) He chuckled and reassured me that since he had gone to the funeral, he knew for a fact that she wasn't coming back. Together, he and I laughed to think of it. Now that she was gone– we could laugh.

Just as he was finishing his sentence, we passed by a second set of doors into the store where an older woman was entering on foot, without either a cart or a basket. She was wearing sunglasses which she didn't take off, and she was sort of shuffle-walking as she stared directly at us with a grin on her face.

She looked exactly like Mona!!

I don't mean there was a passing resemblance, I mean I actually slowed my pace and STARED at her in complete disbelief because the resemblance was so uncanny. Gerick saw it too, and he and I looked at each other like “WTF?” and then we both started laughing with a bit of an hysterical edge because– uh– HUH!?

The woman was a little too short to be Mona, and a little younger than when last I saw Mona last, but otherwise it could have been her freaking twin! She walked the same, wore the same type of sunglasses (out of style even 10 years ago) and had the same type of underbite smile, as well as the same careless shoulder-length hairstyle.

To make matters worse, she kept staring at us as we walked by, to the point of turning her head to keep her gaze on us even after we were well past her. Of course I kept looking back over my shoulder, again and again comparing my memories of Mona to the woman who now seemed a bit sinister. We quickly made our purchases and left.

But as we pulled out, we found ourselves behind a Kia Soul with very large stickers on the back windows featuring a green-skinned witch that AGAIN looked like Mona with hands stretched out as if a witch was in the car coming for you!

Once again, Gerick and I laughed, but it was a bit much, and we both felt a little shaky for several minutes after that.

……….. so yeah, that was exciting.

The weirdness of how the whole thing played out was incredible. Like it was perfectly timed. But what could such a strange series of events MEAN– if anything? I'm over the Mona thing, have been for some time. I used a small bit of memory to make a joke for my husband and then suddenly we were in The Twilight Zone!

But why!?

As the woman stared at us with a fixed and wooden smile, I felt as if The Trickster was staring out her eyes at us. That archetype is said to be a type of being who teaches us lessons we won't learn any other way. It tends to screw up our world for our own good– but the lesson is often messy and painful, even scary. But what could a woman dead for several years have to do with my life now?

I don't know as of yet. I'll stay alert though. Maybe a dream will reveal something. Or I'll come across something in waking reality that will point the way. for now, I just have a great early Halloween story to share.

  • It’s called the Baader Meinhof effect – whenever somebody is on your mind, you tend to notice lookalikes more than you would otherwise. Don’t worry about it.
