DNA Results Show Peru Skulls Are Not From Human Origin

In 1927 esteemed Peruvian Archaeologist Julio Tello discovered a necropolis of hundreds of ceremonial mummified bodies. The mummies were found in sat up in baskets and covered with ornate textiles to suggest this was a ritual burial on a mass scale. Of course the most interesting find for Tello was in fact the now infamous Paracas Skulls.

This discovery confirmed the existence of the lost Paracas culture. They occupied the coastal region of the recently named Paracas peninsula from 800BC to 100AD, making them one of the oldest Andean cultures to date.

In South American culture the use of artificial cranial deformation, or ‘head binding,’ was a widespread cultural aspect of the native tribes. By elongating the head of a new born, their skulls are not yet fully developed, was to signify the child being highborn or to demonstrate group affiliation among other reasons such as religion and spirituality. The practice is spread around the world so various peoples may have different reasoning’s for it.

What they all have in common however is the fact they were all intentionally done by man. This is, apparently, where the Paracus Skulls differ.
