My husband applied for a new position at his company — something that requires more certifications than he has and it was a long shot…
But he got it!!
He has months worth of training ahead of him, but they're giving him 13K more per year to start, and they're paying for him to take the classes he needs to be certified– thousands of dollars worth of education he'll be doing over the next year or so.
It will be very busy for quite a while… In addition to getting himself set up for the new position, he'll also be training his replacements. They are already admitting they need at least 2 people to replace him. His old boss is beside himself because Gerick took care of so much. But here's the thing: he refused to either promote Gerick or give him any substantial raises for 3 years. Even though Gerick was obviously his top-earning employee for the company in their department.
They are lucky he's just switching position– he was looking for another job at another company all together when this came up. They would have had 2 weeks notice and been up shit creek without a paddle.
Though it'll be hard work, he's happy to get a new boss (who doesn't play the political games and take advantage of people) and to get away from his arch nemesis at work, Blanche, at long last. Once he's trained, he'll practically be his own boss, and eventually he wants to move into a managerial position where he will be one of the bosses.
I'm really proud of him and I hope this all works out. It would be nice to have a little more wriggle room in our lives before the next crash down… There is still so much to be done! Now maybe we'll have a better shot at getting what we need to set ourselves up better for the future we see coming towards us. (Not to mention the cross-training in more types of jobs means a better chance at staying employed for a longer period of time at a better job with benefits.)
Good news is so welcome. It seems we are on a roll these days with things going our way for a while. Believe me, I am fully appreciating it!
