At least on the western side of the mountain chains, Oregon & Washington are getting those much needed rains. We had some light sprinkles and a couple of mild showers the last 2 days, and last night we had a nearly night-long drenching. Everything smells fresh and clean again– gone is that ever-present dusty late-summer scent. The danger of forest fires on the west side has been substantially reduced, and the few fires on this side are diminishing quickly.
I can only hope some of those rains reach the east side, defeating the “rain shadow” effect from those tall peaks. They need it so badly!
I've been spending a lot of time outside, either hiking around the forests by my house or just sitting outside listening to and feeling the nearly ever-present winds at Windy Firs. Being Air Oriented, I find them refreshing and energizing, connecting me back to nature at a time when my mind's inner world sometimes seems to overwhelm me.

I have also finally explored the whole podcast thing through my IPOD. Nifty little device, once you start to play with all the bells and whistles! Given that I have no television broadcast service out here, and can only play streaming internet late night through very early morning, having podcasts already downloaded and ready to play during the day as I go about my routine and attempt to pass the time is proving very helpful. I listen to the news, cultural and paranormal commentaries, educational podcasts, and even comedy and radio-style fiction. A welcome distraction during a very trying time.
