Okay, have about a third of my stuff unpacked and put away now. My little study is looking nice, and once I get everything done and art up on the walls, I shall post a pic! (That likely only LJ users will be able to see- the only drawback to Dreamwidth accounts.) Nothing special but I'm surrounded by books and a relaxing kind of room that I deeply appreciate right now. Next up is painting the bedroom, and I'll be busy with that all weekend.
So far I'm right on schedule for moving in to– this house and land, which I need to name as I do so many other domiciles… hmmm!
As far as the neighborhood where I live, and the town…
I live in a very fir-woods dominated neighborhood next to a lake I'll call “Ghost Lake.” Its a pretty, but older, suburb situated in the forested hills above a town I'll call “Heron Lake.”
Ghost Lake is a more modest enclave of Heron Lake, which is mostly tech industry salaried people in McMansions overlooking the larger lake. Recently, Ghost Lake lived up to its name by swallowing up a boater earlier in the summer. Boat overturned and a 5 year old survived because he was wearing a life jacket. His father, however, maybe took a smack to the head in the accident because he went under and never re-surfaced…
Interestingly, Ghost Lake does seem to have more than its share of deathly accidents. The water is often muddy or filled with algae, and though its used a great deal, there are no lifeguards or anything. A park allows access, but much of the lake is abutted up to private property. I have yet to hear of any legends associated with it, but I'll keep my eyes peeled!
Contrastingly, Heron Lake is blue, clear, huge, and respected enough that there are fewer accidents, despite possessing more ample opportunities for such. Its bright and wide open and a major feature that can't be missed.
Ghost Lake is surrounded in such a way that you could easily drive by and never know it existed.
In September, I will be exploring more around both the neighborhood and town of the lakes where I currently reside. There are more stories to tell, and I intend to share them!
