(Before It's News)

I decorated the hallway outside my room and study with a mirror and a bit of art from a friend of mine. The walls were all so boring and white with dark wood doors, so I tried to find something that would work with that, especially since I partially share a bathroom with Cat. The mirror is directly across from the Greenwoman and pentacle, so it reflects the blessing. The wall scones are made for tea lights, and it can be very pretty at night to use, especially with those battery powered color changing fake candles. But real tea lights work great too! Just a little of me spilling into the hall…

Next, when you come in the door, you'll see I have my Fairy Circle art up on the wall, and a moody original gothic architecture print I got from a local artist. I used the scarf that used to be on my lamp and hung it on my bookcase instead. And… I still have a few odds n' ends on my bookcase. Its just too handy not to use, dammit!

I hung a small shelf above my mirror to display more breakable items, and next to it a cross-stitch of a wizard a friend made me nearly 20 years ago. The dressers and my cabinet are arranged with art as well, and I have exactly what I want on display found and put up, including my Morgan Le Fay doll! Its actually a little cluttered looking still, but I will justify it by saying I'm doing a Victorian style display (they were into that bric-a-brac everywhere thing…)

Over my bed, I have a “maiden's crown” from a pagan thing I did a long time ago, then a dream-catcher made by Reese, then the circlet I wore to my wedding when I was in my 20s. The ribbons were done long to go over my long hair. I found a better cloth to go over my lamp, and decided to put some of those purple lights over that as well. Why not?

One of the best things I like about my room is the window dressing. It had very plain old-fashioned blinds (horizontal and skinny) with no other curtains or anything. So I put LED purple string lights around it, then wrapped those in glitter-tinged purple tulle so the lights show through, but the light string itself (which is dark against the light walls) disappears. It softens up the big rectangular window and highlights one of the best features of the room– the huge window on one wall! More art from another friend on the wall of irises, and a star hanging paper art lamp (I will eventually get battery powered LED lights to put in it) put pizzazz in the closet corner. Finally my small book shelf with painted eggs from Ostaras past.

Last but not least, a final shot of the closet and what that corner looks like with the finished bits. Looks nice!

I'm really proud of my home-decorating foray. More so because I did it on a strict budget. Most things were objects I had collected over the course of my life that I love but too often got shoved in boxes and forgotten. I pulled them out and put them where I can enjoy them. I did buy a couple of frames for art from friends, the purple tulle for the window, and a couple of cheap glass lanterns for tea lights (above the white mask, 3rd pic down, in purple and green). Oh– and the paint! That was $50 including a couple of brushes.

And– I am set for the duration of time I live at the Ghost Lake house!

Now, if I could just finish that study of mine to be as pretty as it is functional…
