Figuring out how to do healthy meals when everyone is tired can be challenging.
We're doing Blue Apron meals twice a week. I cook one for Cat & Sharon to come home to after work, and Cat cools one for her mother to come home to on weekends. So far, that's going well, and leftovers always make a nice lunch the next day.
I want to start doing a crockpot meal a week as well, something simple I can toss together when I get up that everyone can enjoy when they get home from work. Its the season for that and I'm already checking out recipes.
However, one idea came because Cat and Sharn watched me do it for dinner a couple of times a week when I wasn't especially hungry, and they started joining me. I like to have crackers and cheese, maybe some deli meat, and then cut up fruit along with hard cider or wine and just nibble happily away until I'm satisfied and then toddle off for the evening. Its swiftly becoming a new 'thing' for the roomies. We're now checking out wines and the cheese section at the store and on those evenings where no one wants to cook or have many dishes, we have ourselves a “nibble night”!
I miss my old wine n' cheese parties with my friends from the craft store. However, partaking in goodies with the roomies is also very satisfying, and I love that they are into hunting for and trying new cheeses and wines and even different combos for what we find we really like and try again. We found a cheese called Red Witch Hostettler that was SO good. I found a substitute for Cotswald cheese (which is a semi-soft orange cheese with chives in it, my hands-down FAVORITE!) called “Cromwell.” Its basically a copy of the famous Welsh cheese, but made in America and costs only half as much! Yayness!
Sometimes I worry about finding my place at Ghost Lake house, but then my roomies are joining me in some of my personal pleasure rituals like enjoying nibbles and wines and liqueurs, meads and ciders. I don't do a lot at once, just enjoy the hedonistic joy of tastes all dancing around in my mouth! Point is, they were very flexible about incorporating some of my stuff into their lives, and that makes me feel all kinds of welcome.
Plus–? I don't have to enjoy my nummies in isolation. It becomes a family-time thing that is joyous and relaxed. I like that… a lot.
