I can understand why the “adulting” meme is getting so much play these days. Its really hard dealing with reality. Everything is so hard and so easy. Everything keeps changing faster than we can keep up– but we have to try anyways. Political discourse is heated and futures seem grim.
Adult coloring books.
Ostensibly they are to help deal with stress by giving yourself a sort of meditative state through pointless action that is not too challenging. Its paper and coloring utensils, no technology needed. Heck, even my own therapist told me to get some, and they did help a little at times when I needed to fill time and was too tired to pace!
Video games.
LOVE 'em! Well, not the fighting ones, war and combat ones, or sports ones– but I really dig the alternate reality fantasy ones, or the Sim ones where you build and manage cities or people's everyday lives. Totally obsessed. I get to have a wee bit of power in those games, and that seems to soothe my soul.
Books.
I've begun reading a lot more fiction lately. FINALLY I can actually settle down enough to do that. And I'm enjoying the ride! Even the scary books aren't as stressful as shit in real life. Monsters and ghosts and shifting dimensions! Get me some of that– STAT!
Kittens!!!
I have a new kitten named Fiona, and there are 2 more kittens here for my roomies as well, and when I need to relax, I just go cuddle them, play with them, or watch them play. Nothing is more amusing than watching kittens play. Their silliness is infectious.
Movies!
Loving new movies coming out to theaters and budgeting to see a couple a month in 3D! (Dr. Strange in 3D is a MUST.) Also watching more movies at home– this weekend we will be watching the 2nd and 3rd movies of the Divergent series.
What are my readers up to to keep the great beast of reality at bay now and again?!
