A regular reader suggested I start up a Patreon page, so fans can donate to my ongoing writing projects and help me out. I wanted to give myself a V-8 forehead slap– why didn't I think of that? Its brilliant! Artists and writers historically have often had patrons who sponsored their endeavors, and the internet makes it easy to use that example.
My paranormal blog gets an average of 90 to 130 unique views per post on average. (By contrast, this personal blog gets about half that.) If even a few want to donate a few bucks a month to make it easier for me to keep on these many writing projects of mine, why not? I'll still write for 'free' as I have before, as I know what its like to not be able to afford ANY extras! However, for those who want to encourage me and get the news firsthand on how all these blogs and books are going, sponsorship may just be a nice solution.
I don't expect much. But then, I have a hard time not being naturally pessimistic! I didn't think I would get money to help me with my divorce either– and then I did! Shows me that great people who can spare a little actually exist in this world and even think ME worthy of a portion of their funds.
So, why not?
And… I got a little something launched, under “Lucretia Heart.”
However-! The site crashed while I was uploading rewards and editing a few things (as I figured my way around) and that sucks. I was also dismayed that I couldn't find contact information for issues I was having with editing — nothing was going through. Of course, that was just before Patreon crashed, so maybe that's why there were issues. However, my point stands– no way to contact staff to ask direct questions. No email or chats or anything that I could find.
Anyways, once the site is back online, feel free to see if you can find it and let me know how it went. I didn't finish, like I said, and I have to fix some things, but its up there!
Its funny. I feel guilty even asking for anything. I was raised to have too much pride to beg. I had to set that pride aside to ask for help when I needed it last year, and now I have to remind myself that I have to produce to keep earning my patronage. Its not charity, its a partnership! Lots of people are using these types of sites to help pay for otherwise non-paying or very low-paying work. (See how I had to talk myself into it?)
Well, I'll give it a go and see. Can't hurt to try.
