Science Will Fall As An Esteemed Institution?
I just wanted to discuss some bits that popped up on The Archdruid Report recently…
JMG: “The World As Representation”
“I’ve written here several times already about the trap into which institutional science has backed itself in recent decades, with the enthusiastic assistance of the belligerent scientific materialists mentioned earlier in this post. Public figures in the scientific community routinely like to insist that the current consensus among scientists on any topic must be accepted by the lay public without question, even when scientific opinion has swung around like a weathercock in living memory, and even when unpleasantly detailed evidence of the deliberate falsification of scientific data is tolerably easy to find, especially but not only in the medical and pharmaceutical fields. That insistence isn’t wearing well; nor does it help when scientific materialists insist—as they very often do—that something can’t exist or something else can’t happen, simply because current theory doesn’t happen to provide a mechanism for it.“
I freaking LOVE this!
And yeah, exactly! We're at the point where science and the “scientific consensus” wants us to believe them on their authority alone, despite the many issues that make that authority questionable. There is a dogma to the materialistic claims that even have to ignore actual scientific evidence at the quantum level– what we think of as “solid” and THERE is an illusion of our limited senses. Yet they dare to pooh-pooh all the amazing things that happen to people that seem to indicate that some part of us lives after death, or that beings from other worlds or dimensions can exist and interact with us on a limited basis.
What is ironic is that in order to do it they have to adamantly refuse to use the scientific method, which requires keeping an open mind and investigating that which we don't understand. Instead, they insist “it can't be and that's just that!” and walk off in nervous laughter. A little humility would be healthy for the Scientific Establishment, but I'm not going to hold my breath!

Our current habits of representation here in the US are very tense and brittle, and focus to a remarkable degree on rejecting the marvelous…“
YES!! Precisely.
Pretty sad, really. We all say we want to be 'happy' but our habits of thought don't really make that easy…
Greer has been saying for a while that in cycles of history, the 'rationalist' paradigm that has held sway for a while is doomed to fall, and so a new Religiosity will be coming next to fill the breach. That makes me very nervous…
I guess I could say that I'm angry at the Scientific Establishment for failing to look at their own issues and addressing them in a RATIONAL manner. That's leaving a civilization in decline to be likely to destroy a lot of knowledge and understanding through a very dark period. Maybe not in my lifetime, but the seeds for that are already being planted. I quell to think what world I'll be born into in my next life!
