Why the Organic Pet Lady Says Your Pets Are Too Valuable to Give Up When You’re Prepping…

(Before It's News)

It’s been quite a while since I’ve written a post about pets and prepping. I decided it was high time to revisit the subject. So my guest on DestinySurvival Radio yesterday was Sheri Rimes, aka the Organic Pet Lady.

Sheri’s a fellow show host on the Preparedness Radio Network with a show called Pet Prep Radio, heard on Friday evenings. When you listen to her talk, her love for god’s creatures comes through clearly. So does her Christian faith.

When we first started our interview, the subject was horses. Sheri loves them. Of course, she also loves dogs and cats. She’s been involved in animal rescue and rehabilitation throughout her life.

Sheri’s quite knowledgeable about animal health and nutrition. As you might guess from her nickname–the Organic Pet Lady–she’s a proponent of organic foods and alternative health practices for animals, including homeopathy.

If these are things you’d like to know more about, consider her as an excellent resource. Plus, she produces her own organic animal food products which include chia seeds.

Food is medicine for animals as well as it is for us. Animals are just as prone to illnesses from toxins in the environment as we are. They need nutrients to build their immune systems, too.

Unfortunately, with the tough economic times upon us, many are getting rid of their pets, including horses. Sheri’s first piece of advice is not to panic. She reminds us that our pets are not accessories or luxuries. They’re family members.

Pets can help comfort and relieve stress in times of trouble. They can protect us and warn of danger. Cats keep the rodent population down. Dogs and horses can be trained to haul packs or pull a travois.

Granted, keeping a pet is an expense. But Sheri says to prioritize. Do you really need cable TV?

You don’t have to spend a lot of money on unhealthy commercial foods. Dehydrate and freeze foods for your animals. Get connected with a butcher for meats.

Also, you don’t need to spend a lot of money on pharmaceudical drugs and vaccines for pets. For more on this, you’ll want to hear Pet Prep Radio for August 10, 2012 where Sheri and Dr. Deva Khalsa discuss why you shouldn’t vaccinate your pets every year.

Sheri’s Pet Prep Radio show airs Friday evenings on the Preparedness Radio Network at 6 Central, 7 Eastern Time. She delves into topics like nutrition, health, first aid, preparedness, training, survival and more for pets–and their people, too.

Hear my complete interview with Sheri the organic pet lady when you listen to DestinySurvival Radio for August 16, 2012. View Sheri’s Web site at TheOrganicPet.net.

What do you think? Are you practicing alternative health habits for your pets? Has downsizing for you meant getting rid of your pets? If not, what are you doing to keep your pets while you’re prepping?
