National Wild Turkey Federation Volunteers Featured in Field & Stream Issue

EDGEFIELD, S.C. --(Ammoland.com)- Congratulations to NWTF volunteers Marcia and Ken Polhamus, who are featured as “Heroes of Conservation” in the October issue of Field & Stream magazine, which is now available on newsstands everywhere.

Together, Marcia and Ken were chosen as one of six finalists for Field & Stream’s Hero of the Year award, which will be awarded Oct. 4 in Washington, D.C.
“The richly deserved national recognition that Marcia and Ken are receiving reflects well on all the hard work and great contributions of our volunteers, who spread the NWTF’s mission of conservation and the preservation of our hunting heritage to our youth,” said Mandy Harling, the national coordinator of the NWTF’s JAKES (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship) program.
Marcia and Ken were recognized for their yeoman-like duties while coordinating the Illinois State JAKES program. As co-coordinators, they organize and operate the Illinois State JAKES hunt for five consecutive weekends in the spring near Pecatonica, Ill. In addition, they run the JAKES program in their hometown of Galena.
Field & Stream donated $5,000 to the Heroes of Conservation finalists, for the conservation projects of their choice. Marcia and Ken elected to split the award between the JAKES program and the Illinois Conservation Foundation, owner of the property where the Illinois JAKES hunt is held.
If selected as the national winners by contest panelists, Marcia and Ken will receive a Toyota Tundra.
At hundreds of JAKES events held throughout the year by local chapters throughout the country, NWTF volunteers help produce the next generation of conservationists and hunters.
