NEWTOWN, Conn --(Ammoland.com)- NSSF has taken on title co-sponsorship of shooting events scheduled in conjunction with the Republican and Democratic National Party conventions.

Last Tuesday, Aug. 28, the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) hosted the Stars and Stripes Shoot-Out at the Tampa Bay Sporting Clays facility in Tampa, Fla.

“We had the opportunity to speak with several senators, including Sen. Jim Risch (R-Idaho) and Sen. John Boozman (R-Ark.), and a number of House members about NSSF’s federal legislative priorities, particularly the Hunting, Fishing and Recreational Shooting Protection Act (S.838),” said NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane.

“We also had the opportunity to thank Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad for his support in derailing an ill-considered ban on traditional ammunition for dove hunting.”

Another person on hand to meet the Republican convention attendees was Kim Rhode, recent gold medal winner in women’s skeet at the Olympics in London, who passed on tips to new shooters.

On Tuesday, Sept. 4, CSF hosted the second Stars and Stripes Shoot-Out at the Fork Farm and Stables in Norwood, N.C., this time in conjunction with the Democratic National Convention. There, NSSF met with Vice Chairman of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) and Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) to discuss hunting and recreational shooting.

“We thanked Rep. Shuler for sponsoring the Target Practice and Marksmanship Training Support Act (HR 3065), an NSSF priority that has passed the House,” said Patrick Rothwell, director of government relations – federal affairs, who attended the event.
