Life continues to be extremely busy. This site, Seasoned Citizen Prepper, and Best Preparedness Deals have taken up a lot of time though I really do enjoy working with them. I have taken a break from my fiction site, A Survival Story and will be starting it back up soon. I was finally able to get A Survival Story: Part I published on Amazon. Looking forward to starting Part II. Will update everyone when I have more information.
Looking a lot at my preps and things that I need to get. The first thing – and it is not a thing – is to get better organized I have mentioned this before and it is a continuous battle. Most of my stuff is stored in the garage. Along one 20 foot wall I have shelves on the wall with numerous totes underneath. Shelves hold emergency lighting, some emergency cooking stuff, knives, batteries, inverters, and seeds. Totes hold spare winter stuff, firearm accessories, medical supplies, emergency lighting, my airsoft equipment, sanitation and cleaning supplies.
Midway along the wall is a metal workbench and pegboard set up. Workbench holds some gun cleaning stuff, fire extinguisher, several Midland FRS/GMRS radio’s, CB and antenna, my Wonder Mill Junior Deluxe grinder, paintball stuff, and a ton of magazines (the reading kind).
Next is a large metal cabinet that holds medical supplies, gun stuff and ammunition, some freeze dried food, sleeping bags, and body armor.
Around the corner is a strong wire shelving unit that holds a variety of food from the LDS cannery, more freeze dried stuff, 16 oz propane canisters, several tactical bags, water bottles with filters, and my Big Berkey. More stuff in the house and shed.
The garage is a mess with non-preparedness crap and have been working on cleaning up.
Anyways – working on a list of specific items I need to acquire in order of priority.

Anyone else notice Wal-Mart, Dicks, and Academy Sports are all carrying a lot more tactical-type firearms and gear? I mean – several years ago K-Mart stopped carrying guns altogether. Wal-Mart cut way back on what they were carrying. Now Wal-Mart carries AR’s, high capacity magazines, custom stocks and grips, etc. Apparently demand and money overrides the CEO’s core beliefs.
Speaking of high capacity magazines…….There are some out there that ridicule those that use the term “high capacity magazine”. They state that a 30-rd magazine is not “high capacity” but rather it is standard capacity. I use the term “high capacity” so that a more specific detailed description of the item can be relayed. I am not going to get hung up on the semantics and will continue to use the term high capacity when it is relevant.
I am surprised that Israel has not taken action yet against Iran. I am not looking forward to gas prices when it eventually happens. I also can’t believe we let the President of Iran – that low-life Ahmadinejad set foot in the United States.
Took family on a weekend camping trip recently. Overall good time. First time using new tent. Went with two other families. Good times sitting around the campfire, mountain biking around a lake on trails, and people asking me about my views on politics. Guess what? They got more than they expected.
A neighbor recently had to give up their house and moved. They allowed me to go over and take whatever I wanted from their yard as they didn’t need it and were not taking it with them. I managed to pick up a lot of material for raised beds, some wood for the fire pit, as well as some plants for the yard.
Much to my surprise I had strawberries ready to pick this past weekend. I grow an Everbearing variety and this is my second year growing them. They continue to grow and spread throughout the bed. I thought they had pretty much gone by when I took a gander at them and saw juicy berries hanging there.
Mrs. Rourke planted an herb garden in a small raised bed a few years ago and it continues to come back and be very prolific. Love the smell of it. Rosemary, oregano, mint and chives…..Oh my!!
Food and fuel prices continue to move upward. Walking out of the grocery store pushing a carriage that just cost me $165 and feeling that I just didn’t get much…..not getting better. Seeing sale prices that are higher than the regular prices of a year ago…..not feeling really positive about the economy. Filled up my wife’s SUV at the tune of $89.75…..not very promising. Money is getting tighter and tighter for me and I am sure I am not alone.
With winter approaching started making a few changes to several Get Home Bags. Including more fire starting supplies and “warmth” stuff.
Remember…..if the zombies are coming you have to just be able to run faster than the person next to you.
