Julien Goerlach asked this below, any thoughts? “Hi guys, I’m searching for plans for a 2-person-float. It should be strong enough for a 5 day trip over an easy river. If anybody have plans or ideas for building a good one out of wood and/or maybe easy stuff like empty drinking bottles or something please write it here :)

Some comments we received:

Comment #1:  Mythbusters recently did a segment on duct tape, where they designed a boat with a ridged frame and covered it with several layers of duct tape.

Comment #2:  I built my own boat three winters ago and photographed each step of the building. I use it regularly 5 times a week where I live. It’s also solar powered. It’s 12 foot long by about 4 foot and was less than 300 to build.

Comment #3:  The 55 gallon cans sealed are the easiest, build a frame of 2×6′s,four barrels will float an unbelievable amount of weight,a rutter about two feet long fixed in the center will help steer, use some pvc and a tarp for a sun shield,to have a dry place to sleep, store goods.
