Yesterday a train derailed in Paulsboro NJ, 9 miles sw of Philadelphia, due to a bridge collapse. The United States Coast Guard is the lead federal agency involved with the situation. Since New Jersey Regional Operation Center is already activate, due to Sandy, the state response has been quick and efficient.
The train was carrying vinyl chloride and that has been confirmed to be leaking. Evacuation has been order for some residents and a Red Cross Shelter has also been activated. Air samples are indicating that there is elevated levels of the leaking chemical in the air.
Residents in the area that are not under the evacuation orders should remain in their homes as much as possible and following shelter in place protocols would be highly advisable.
