Hurricane Evan (in the Western Pacific) is bearing down on the American Samoa. This is a Cat 1 Hurricane and is expected to increase to a Cat 3 or 4 before hitting the Island. FEMA has deployed Emergency Personnel to Hawaii for deployment after the storm.
The most interesting part of this storm is that it has made a 180 degree turn to hit the island. Everyone thought that it was strange when Hurricane Sandy made a 90 degree turn, this one made a 180.
It demonstrates that weather fronts has a lot to do with the direction of a Hurricane. When a hurricane hits a cold front instead of dissipating it can change course.
Now the natural question would be how to harness that information and maybe control hurricanes far enough to turn them away from populated areas?
