(Before It's News)

In a few days we will move into 2013.  I was curious today and started googling “2012 predictions” or “2012 SHTF.”  Lots of calls for the world to end in 2012, a major financial crisis to hit, stock market collapse, Europe to implode, precious metals to soar, the dollar to fail with hyperinflation setting in.  Of course none of those things happened (in full) but that does not mean that we are out of the woods, or that we can ever truly get out of the woods.  Predictions are always hard and when you circle a date or year on the calendar things can get complicated when those predictions don’t pan out.  All of that said, the world is still a very volatile place and anything is possible.  This is why we do what we do, preparing for uncertain times.  I have a friend who once told me: “if I die an old man with a basement full of stuff [preps] I have never used, it will be a very good day.”  I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Prepper Deals out on the Internet:

Tire chains are to a car what cleats are to a football player who is on wet and muddy turf.  Tire chains are a great asset to have, especially if you had to bugout in terrible weather (icy conditions).  Check out this website for more info.

The other day I came in from the cold and my daughter had some hot cocoa waiting for me, it was truly amazing.  Imagine having some simple comforts like this ready to go in your food storage stash.  Emergency Essentials has some ready to order.

Current events and opinion:

Does Anyone Care About the ‘Dairy Cliff’?
PJ:  I don’t drink much milk, but I’m sure rising prices would have 2nd and 3rd order effects on other items I consume.

Semper Fi, Unless It’s Not Convenient
PJ:  I really feel like the ordeal this Marine went through was completely unnecessary but am thankful he is now home with his family.  I just wonder why it took so long for our government to get involved.

10 Countries With Assault Weapons Bans (And Their Gun Homicide Counts)
PJ:  Interesting results here, remember while looking at the figures you have to take the population of each country into account when calculating per capita.

Snow covers 65% of the lower 48; more coming
PJ:  Good tires, good tires, good tires.  What good is a 4wd if you are running around on bald tires with the wire tread almost showing?  It is winter, it will snow, the roads will be terrible.  Make sure your vehicle is up to date on required maintenance, keep a survival bag in it at all times and if you need them buy some good all season tires.  The other day I was behind a fancy SUV going up a hill, it was sliding all over the road struggling for grip.  My 7year old 4WD with relatively new tires powered up the hill with barely a slip.

U.S. Drought: Third Highest Severe to Extreme Percentage on Record
PJ:  The drought is still in the news, and it isn’t going anywhere.  What would happen if the phenomenon we are witnessing with exploding gun and ammunition prices were to happen with food?  Would you be prepared?
