Today Jack Phoenix shows you another great piece of survival gear: The Solo Stove. Watch Jack demonstrate this handy little camp stove in this next episode of Doomsday Survival Skills.
How the Solo Stove Works
The double-wall design of the stove allows it to channel air through the intake holes on the bottom of the stove, superheating the oxygen before feeding the fire at the TOP of the flames. This burst of preheated oxygen causes a secondary combustion, allowing the fire to burn cleaner and hotter. Less smoke, more stealth.
Built to Last
The Solo Stove is made of high grade stainless steel. A one-piece construction of the outer and inner walls makes the stove very durable. This method of construction eliminates the need for excessive welding and increases the overall lifespan of the stove. The inner grate is made of Nichrome wire, with has a melting point of 2552 degrees Fahrenheit.
It also comes with a pot holder, so you can bring a quart vessel of water to a boil in under five minutes.
A note about sterilizing water
Some older documents advise boiling water for ten minutes in order to sterilize it. This is a pointless waste of time and fuel. Merely bringing the water to a boil is enough to kill everything in it and make it safe to drink.
